Laying out field procedure. Put down your shooting line first. Find the center point of your shooting line and put a stake there. (this is the lane for lights and DOS) From the center point lay out a 30,40, 50 foot triangle (with the 50 foot being the hypotenuse of the triangle) and place another stake on the triangle leg perpendicular to the shooting line. Stretch a string out at least 90 meters in this direction. With your measuring tape mark the center line at 20,25,30,40,50,60, 70, and 90 meters. Write the distances on the ground for reference. (I wouldn't paint the center line yet) Now mark your shooting line in 10 foot increments for target lines. I like 10 feet because it is easy to replicate and see on the tape. You can also do 3 meters if you want, which is about 10 feet. Make hash marks as you go for the center of the bales. Based on the target assignments I would do 1through 7 on the right and 8 through 17 on the left. This means you need cross lines of 20,25,30, 40,50 and 60 on the right side and 30,40,50,60,70,90 on the right. Notice that 30,40,50, and 60 lines go on both sides of center. After laying out the hash marks on the shooting line, at target lane 1 and 17 do another 30,40,50 foot triangle and square up your outside lines. Lay out the string perpendicular to the shooting line. BEFORE painting it is a good idea to check the distance between you center line and outside lines at 90 meters on the left and 60 meters on the right to make sure you are square. Once square, paint the center line and outside lines. Now mark the outside lines at the shooting distances. Now mark the shooting distances parallel with the shooting line. Mark the 90 meter line on the left side of the field and the 60 meter line to the right in the same manner you marked the shooting line in 10 foot or 3 meter increments. These are your initial target placements. (notice you really don't have to mark 60 meters on the cub and bowman targets but it does help make sure the field is square and gives you some flexibility if you have to add or adjust targets due to late entries. Lay your string at the hash marks on the shooting line and 90 meters and mark the string where it crosses you target distance lines with paint. Do the same thing on the right side from the 60 meter line to the shooting line. Your field is now lined out except for a few more lines. From the shooting line measure in 3 meters for the dropped arrow line. From the shooting line go back 3 meters for the waiting line. I like to go back another 3 meters for the spectator/tent line. Now you have a marked field.
