2002 World Field Archery Championships
Waltzin' Muhtilda  Well, Australia seems to be the place for archery these last few years - the Olympics, the Paralympics (of course), and both the Masters World Championships and the FITA Field Championships this summer. (their winter, as some archers discovered to their surprise). Kristin Milchanowski and Kristine Ehrich both journeyed down under to participate in the Field Championships, and we hope to extract a writeup from BOTH of them for a future issue. (Incidentally, you can also download the FITA FANFARE as an mp3 file from this site as well. Cool! |

The Indoor Season Is Upon Us - Get Yer Registrations Raht Hyar!
It's that time of the year, where registrations are being accepted for the A A&M 'Aggie Invitational', and you should consider this YOUR INVITE !
The folks at A&M currently have one of the nicest venues for shooting indoors in the Lone Star State, and attendances in the past have shown a distinct UPWARDS trend. So much so that slowpokes who don't register double-quick may not get the shooting time they want. Use this link to access the registration page on the A&M website, print it, fill it out, and mail it in with your registration fee ASAP. Registering sooner than later also helps Kathy Eissinger and Frank Thomas to prepare for the event and deal with all of the logistics. Suffolk Archery Charity Shoot
Suffolk Archers is having a charity shoot to benefit "Newborns in Need" on this next weekend, 9-22-02. The shoot is located at the Suffolk Archers club which is located in South Huntington, Long Island. Please visit their web site for information. Calendar Change
World Festival Changes Date Ted Harden of the Arizona Archery Association recently gave me a heads-up notice about the Las Vegas World Festival having changed their date, to February 20-23. The calendar on the Archival Archery website contains all the events we know about - if you have an event upcoming for archery that you'd like to be listed, just send us an email with the details and we will post it no charge. (of course) The link to use for sending us info is at the top of the calendar. (And thanks to Ted for the heads up - Arizona certainly has a great archery program, and as their webmaster, he does a fantastic job. Which reminds me - he conducts a monthly mail-in for scores - it's a great way for your JOAD archer(s) to compete in a totally low-stress way with peers from around the country. AOLMessages Vanish and HEY ! I didn't send that!
AOL, already considered a pariah by internet customer service connoisseurs, is having trouble delivering the mail. One person reported discovering that some messages sent to him were not making it into his inbox. After three weeks of testing, he found that at times as many as 80 percent of the messages he sent to himself from another account were neither delivered nor bounced, they simply disappeared. The several tech services representatives he contacted, including one specializing in e-mail administration, merely apologized. BTW - Nearly EVERY one of all of the infected emails I am receiving come from an AOL domain. AOL has some real problems. Which leads to... The "HEY! I didn't send that!" Part Have you found an email returned message in your inbox, and discovered that it looked like you had sent it out when you KNOW never did? Or has someone you know let you know that they don't like you sending them funny messages or worse yet, VIRUSES? AND you are being a "good guy" by keeping both zone alarm and some antivirus software going all the time? The problem you have discovered is this: the KLEZ worm/virus has a particularly nasty feature. When someone's computer gets infected with KLEZ, it promptly finds that person's address book, and KLEZ sends itself out to the people in that address book. It uses ONE of the names at random as the sender, instead of the address of that person that was too lazy to get antivirus software. So if one of the names it found was yours, then you get used as the "FROM:" address, over and over again, as KLEZ attempts to send itself to everyone in that person's address book. MAJOR HEADACHES for you as people start complaining to you! All you can do in your defense, beyond using ZA and antivirus software, is to know the important points about the KLEZ and to tell your friends to check the HEADER of the message to prove it didn't come from you. Special Request For Barbadosian Limbs
 Barbados has an archer (!) in need of some limbs for her recurve bow. She is trying to find 38 pound Conquest limbs, and word has come to me through the grapevine of her acute need and a request to seek help for her. So if you know of anyone that has a pair gathering dust or otherwise available, please contact her. If you have a 40 pound set of limbs that might work as an alternative.
